Raoul Moat Rest In Peace...

He should at least be entitled to that much. There's something about hunting down a man like a 'Mad Dog' that does not sit well with me. There are moments in my blog when you are instinctively drawn to comment, and this is no less such a moment. Raoul Moat was a disillusioned, quite probably half decent man, he certainly understood the concept of love and hate. So when his partner taunted him with the lie that she was dating a Policeman, the ultimate betrayal representing everything he hated in his world; he responded in the way a desperate and unhappy man could. He declared war on the institution, specifically the Police, he snapped!.
By initially shooting his partner and her lover, this would have been considered a crime of passion in France, his anger and frustration gathered momentum and he declared war on the Police, not the public; the Police. It's an important point because you see a lot of people in this country dislike the Police, now don't get me wrong I am not just talking about the criminal fraternity, I am talking about the two thirds of innocent victims of crime whom have their DNA illegally stored on the Polices DNA database, judged illegal incidentally by a European Court last year; I am talking about children being arrested for innocently carrying pocket knives or playing with their toy guns, ask the front line coppers, and they don't care, its the old Nuremberg defence "just following orders Guv". But of course things are not as simple as that are they?.
Mr Moat was making a point, in my opinion he didn't seek to harm the general public, I suspect he simply felt coppers were fair game, so he drew first blood. We have been witness all week to policemen walking around and terrifying a English town cradling their precious 'Heckler and Koch' machine guns, symbols of their mighty power, symbols we can never be allowed, and their pain and embarrassment is made worst by the fact that Mr Moat is a man of Arms, it represents everything they despise, he had gone to ground and it threatened 'their' authority. In their desperation the Police turned to convincing the Public that he was a real threat to them, they employed Tornado jets and involved the SAS; such was their impotence in light of his intelligence and understanding of Military tactics. During WW2 the Germans unleashed thousands of troops to track down SOE agents in Norway whom had just sabotaged the Telemark heavy water plant, even then they realised that flooding the area with troops was self cancelling and never worked. In fact if they had left the man alone he would have probably turned up a few weeks later, no harm done, and they would have quietly arrested him, he may have even given himself up.
We need to stop and think about what society is doing to these individuals, and realise what has become of what was once a respected force, way back in the eighties I almost became a policeman, the organisation I see right now is a different animal, and I fear one which has lost a lot of respect from a large majority of the British people. When the dust has settled on this tragic affair, will anybody really ask the relevant questions, more importantly, will anything actually be done about this mess.
