What did you do in the sixties Dad?....
Well, now you mention it son, I was being born!. In the year I was born man first went into space. To be more specific Yuri Gagarin, the supreme example of 'Homo Sovieticus', all five feet two inches of him (and dare I forget the first woman Valentina Tereshkova) Yuri became an instant celebrity world wide, popped over to Manchester in the summer of 1961 and had dinner with the queen on the way (and touched her knee! steady on!!). Were approaching his 50th anniversary of this amazing space flight, so this year to I become fifty. I must go to London and see the statue they will be unveiling to this hero of the Soviet Union, an exact replica of one they have in Russia, even artificially aged to match. Do we ever really get time to recognise real hero's anymore?, I wonder.....
