When I was a kid in Coventry, and pretty much everywhere else for that matter, our TV was dominated by American television. We would watch fabulous shows like 'Rhoda', which I know for a fact my sister adored and probably was a major factor in her moving to the states, and the truth be told I envy her that. We would sit down with our beans on toast in the depths of a British winter and marvel at the California locations along with New York, Boston etc.
There was a showcase of I think it was NBC 'Mystery Movies' which premiered great shows like 'Columbo',(I have just heard Peter has passed) 'McMillan and Wife', 'McCloud', and then there was other companies like Quinn Martin that created shows like 'Cannon',with William Conrad, we had 'Kojak' and of course 'Starsky and Hutch' a Spelling Goldberg offering, and the 'Rockford Files'. It was wonderful, my fave is a difficult one; but I always admired that smoothie George Peppard as 'Banachek', the theme tune was glorious, and production values still hold up today. I still want to be Banachek....
