London 2012

In a lot of ways London never changes. The capitol remains a succinctly beautiful blend of architecture that continues to capture the imagination of the tourist; its a theme park of sorts, and looking around the street cafes, there are plenty of one a be actors posing in the sunshine. Being fifty however, and working hard on my present portly Steven Segal look, my posing days are over; so I continued with my walk up Carnaby Street with Emma. We started with breakfast at 'Burger King' in Euston station, followed by a good burger at 'Byrons' for lunch, in between, the Imperial War museum beckoned. It also has not really changed much since I visited last as a teenager, still exciting in its own way, resplendent with its uniforms and Guns, and remains thought provoking. We then walked over to 'Churchill's War Rooms' and did the tour. It was with out a doubt to see the chair that Churchill sat in, and his conference room etc quite interesting, I reflected on the decisions that had been made between these very walls, yet strangely I didn't quite get that psychic vibe that I get when I visit sites of historical interest, perhaps because at the end of the day, a Bunker, is a Bunker, and there pretty grim places. Go to London, but go before and after the Olympics. London is for grabbing a light lunch and taking pictures, and thats really about all, the shops are effectively useless and sell rubbish, long gone are the days you could find a dusty old junk or book shop, even the fashion stores in Carnaby street were quite sterile, but I did promise Emma to catch a play in the West End next time around, always wanted to see the 'Mousetrap'. I thanked my daughter for this fathers day treat.
