Reflections on New Zealand 2011
What a journey it was, I had the pleasures of the Planetarium (they do a wonderful presentation with our own Ewan McGregor doing the voice over) and Botanical gardens in Wellington, the entertaining 'Southwards' Car museum on the way to New Plymouth where I discovered (apart from some well maintained Coventry cars) what happened to the car in Woody Allens classic film 'The Sleeper'?. Along with a limo that once belonged to Marlene Dietrich.
New Zealand is a wonderful place of contrasts, you discover the gastronomic delights of 'Mince meat on toast'!which I first experienced in its basic form in a likable pub called 'The Shepherds Arms' in Wellington,(good Cider on tap) be aware the 'Metre de' will collect your plates before you finish!, and then a more sophisticated form in I think it was Island Bay. The Sierra coffee house in Wellington, they do a reasonable potato and bacon cake, and ice chocolate frappes, its also good for people watching (odd side salad with peanuts in?). 'Cosa Nostra' on the Tinakori Road was wonderfully cosy on our last night where I had spaghetti with green lipped Clams,Calamari, tomatoes and mussels; again I can only recommend it. Then for your breakfast, I suggest the Cracked Pepper cafe, on Victoria avenue Wanganui, 'your breakfast specialists'. Scorcher Bay remains my favorite for now, but there are so many more. I would love to return one day, really explore the national Parks, the South Island; and Christchurch in recovery, visited by Prince William this very day.
If you have the chance do visit New Zealand, it deserves your patronage, and you will not be disappointed.
