So I am catching up with this mornings episode of Star Trek, and the shocking conduct of Kirk fighting over a woman with an immortal called Flint. What the bloody hell is going on here? Kirk, and you call yourself a Star fleet captain?!. She was a bloody android anyway!. She never could understand true love, the Ecstasy, the broken rules, and glorious chances; which is in fact the same advice McCoy gives to Spock at the end of the episode,(which despite his supreme logic is somewhat lost for words) where upon he erases Kirks memory of the woman with a Vulcan mind meld.
Now the point I am making here is, what if we could erase certain aspects of our memory?, it lends itself to interesting possibilities; imagine you have just been through a difficult divorce, so you arrange to have your memory of HER erased, (the money stealing viperous cow that she is...) So you treatment is successful you walk out of the treatment room, and fall instantly in love with a red head you meet in the reception area, whom happens to be your recently treated ex wife!!!. Perhaps not such a good a idea?.
I suppose I would erase the selective memories of incredibly stupid and embarrassing moments in my life, falling off a shopping trolley I was trying to ride in a supermarket in Sussex while trying to impress a girlfriend, things like that. But as Kirk once said, 'I need my memories, sometimes I have turned left in my life, when I should have turned right; but those mistakes make me what I am'. So there is my wisdom for today, the more stupid we are, the better we become?...
