Edinburgh

I think at some point in your life you should visit Edinburgh. It just so happened we decided to visit during the 'Fringe' month. Robin Williams passed away this week, and as I too have felt the grip of depression, I felt for him; his early days were recounted at the Fringe also with the fondest and most genuine of  memories. It 's full of youthful energetic non sense in the main, mostly entertaining; and re-enforces that it really and truly is Scotland's cultural capital in my opinion, and centre's mostly on its University life. The heart of the city is dominated by impressive Victorian architecture. Packed with as many cafes as there is pubs, vintage shops as there is Tartan Kilts and Scottish wool. The Haggis as much as the black pudding compliment the various Malts of the month and was irresistible.
I enjoyed walking the Royal Mile. I also enjoyed the Castle, but not the large crowds of tourists ( probably best out of season), I enjoyed its sense of military history, it only major failing was the monstrosity of a bolt on 'stage come amphitheater'  which was hideous!. You can only conclude that the city's Councillors need to get the maximum out of its Castle at any price, and lets face it, the tourists were there. A clean and welcoming City, with a strong sense of cultural pride.
