Stirling Castle

Easily comparable to Edinburgh Castle. Therefore I will, its larger so was designed more for people to actually live there, more spacious and a ideal film set in some ways. The garrison come billets at the rear (latterly some sort of prison block in part) seem to intrigue me, the feeling of being based there as a soldier in the last century, the tedium of the block house. Some interesting state rooms, still waiting to be completed and filled. The king and queens bedrooms with there waiting areas for the lesser mortals, the Kitchens, all good. Above all else a more personable castle, its references to Scotland's military history was more heart felt than Edinburgh castle. You could feel the presence of the Scots in battle, more human.
At the height of the season this castle was also quite crowded, yet more spacious and less claustrophobic. As defined by some toy soldiers found in the castle, families lived here, children played here.
